Building Pathways: HCC and ISANS Partner to Deliver Bridge to Construction Program
The Housing Construction Council of Nova Scotia (HCC) and the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) are delivering the Fall 2026 Bridge to Construction program, a training opportunity that helps newcomers and internationally trained individuals build the skills, knowledge and connections needed to pursue careers in Nova Scotia’s housing construction sector.
As Nova Scotia continues to build the workforce needed to support housing construction across the province, creating accessible pathways into the industry is increasingly important. Bridge to Construction will help participants gain practical experience while becoming familiar with Canadian construction practices, workplace expectations and skilled-trades career opportunities.
Hands-On Training for the Housing Construction IndustryThe 9-week pilot program is designed for up to 20 participants and combines classroom learning with supervised, practical construction activities. Participants will be introduced to a broad range of foundational housing construction skills and concepts, including:
The program is designed to give participants an understanding of how residential construction sites operate while providing opportunities to apply what they learn through hands-on activities.
A Collaborative ApproachHCC and ISANS will work collaboratively throughout the planning and delivery of the Fall 2026 program. As the Training Partner, HCC will bring its experience in housing construction workforce development and industry-focused training to the program. ISANS, as the Program Partner, will provide its expertise in supporting newcomers and internationally trained individuals as they establish their careers and lives in Nova Scotia. Together, the organizations will help participants better understand the opportunities available within housing construction and connect their existing experiences, skills and interests with potential career pathways in the sector. |

Building Connections to CareersNova Scotia’s housing construction industry offers a wide range of career possibilities, from skilled trades and site operations to technical, supervisory and other construction-related roles. For newcomers and internationally trained individuals, understanding how to enter the industry and translate existing skills and experience into the Canadian workplace can be an important first step. Through Bridge to Construction, HCC and ISANS are working to make that pathway clearer while providing participants with practical training, industry knowledge, workplace preparation and connections that can help them take their next step toward a career in housing construction. The Fall 2026 pilot represents another opportunity to strengthen Nova Scotia’s construction workforce while creating more accessible pathways for people who are ready to build their future in the industry.
