With temperatures reaching nearly 35°C, the sunshine matched the excitement surrounding the H-EDGE Program Graduation held last Friday at the Lawrencetown Education Centre (LEC). From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., graduates, instructors, partners, family members, and supporters gathered to celebrate the achievements of participants who are now one step closer to careers in Nova Scotia's skilled trades sector.

The H-EDGE Program is a workforce development initiative delivered through a partnership between the Housing Construction Council (HCC) and the EDGE Program. Designed to support youth facing barriers to employment, the program provides hands-on construction training, industry-recognized safety certifications, employment-readiness coaching, and individualized supports to prepare participants for sustainable careers in the skilled trades.

As part of the program, participants built a community pantry to support the Middleton community. Completed in partnership with the Farm Café, the pantry will provide an accessible food resource for local residents while showcasing the practical skills participants developed throughout the program.

The H-EDGE Program helps address workforce shortages in Nova Scotia's housing construction sector while creating meaningful pathways to employment for youth. Last Friday's graduation celebrated the hard work, determination, and growth of every participant as they prepare to begin the next chapter of their careers.
