Completed Training Program Homes Delivered to West Dalhousie

Just days after celebrating the graduation of 19 learners from the Modular Housing Construction Fundamentals (MHCF) and Tiny Home Construction Finishing Fundamentals (THCFF) programs in Lawrencetown, the first three homes built through the programs began the next chapter of their journey.

Over the past several months, learners gained hands-on experience in housing construction while building complete, net-zero-ready tiny homes from the ground up. Following the successful completion of the programs, those homes were carefully transported from the training site in Lawrencetown to the community of West Dalhousie.

The home deliveries marked an exciting milestone for both the graduates and the many partners who helped make the project possible. Seeing the homes move from a learning environment to a community setting highlighted the real-world impact of the skills developed throughout the programs and the meaningful contribution learners have made through their hard work and dedication.

We are incredibly proud of our graduates and grateful to everyone who supported this initiative. A special thank you to MLA David Bowlby, Roy Hodder Enterprises, Moody’s Crane Rentals, the West Dalhousie Community Hall, the Valley Rotary Clubs, and the Lawrencetown Education Centre (LEC) for their partnership and support throughout this project.

The success of this project was made possible through the dedication of learners, instructors, staff, partners, and supporters who all played a role in bringing these homes to life. The impact of the program has been felt in different ways by those involved, from creating pathways into the skilled trades to helping address housing needs in Nova Scotia. Below, Shawna, Chair of the Housing Construction Council, and Dylan, a participant in the Tiny Home Construction Finishing Fundamentals Program, share their reflections on the project and the difference it is making in our province.

"One of the most rewarding parts of this project was seeing Nova Scotians come together to address two pressing challenges at once: housing and workforce development. The graduates gained practical construction skills, industry certifications, and real experience building homes, while families gained new housing. Programs like this demonstrate how collaboration between industry, government, educators, and communities can create meaningful change. The graduates leave with more than a certificate; they leave with experience, confidence, and the knowledge that their work has already made a difference. For me, that is what makes this project so special."

"Coming from a different province and a background in health care, I wasn't sure if I would be successful in a hands-on construction environment. The support I received from the instructors and program staff helped me build confidence, develop practical skills, and step outside my comfort zone. Through this experience, I discovered a passion for this kind of work and realized that I could pursue a career in the skilled trades. Participating in this program has changed my life for the better, and I am grateful to everyone who helped make it possible. Together, we can do so much good within our communities."
